Prototype 2:       

Prototype 2 is a VW Rabbit test vehicle for systems implementation and refinement on a larger scale.  Check out our Technical Info, Systems, and Motor.  Below are some pictures of Prototype 2:

The AC motor will be created, designed, manufactured and integrated by Team Desert Fuel;  in this picture the "test" windings are being created for the motor.  The windings will be used for a mock up for the mold and the actual stand count, length, and size have to be extremely accurate.  The production motor will have 31 miles of copper wire running through it;  the team is presently busy building the mold for the stator. See more details about the motor by clicking here.

The 1.5L diesel in Prototype 2 is a little tired and the seals are not what they used to be.  The engine bay was cleaned and catch can was added.  Oil was pooling in the intake and causing the motor to "run away".  Since the catch can install the runaway motor problem has not been repeated.

Finally, some real modification to Prototype 2!

The rear axle has been removed from the car and it is being modified for rear wheel drive.   The AC motor will be approximately where the spare tire used to reside.

Prototype 2's TDI diesel engine was purchased for modification in April 2008.
